India is one country which is honoured for its rich cultural heritage and art forms all over the world. Many famous personalities have acknowledged India’s role in preserving its heritage with exceptional efforts and emotions. Mark Twain, a famous American writer said:

“India is the cradle of Human race,
The birthplace of speech,
The mother of history,
The grandmother of legends, and
The great grandmother of traditions.
Our most valuable and constructive materials in the history of man
is treasured up in India only. “

Paying a humble tribute to the rich cultural heritage of our country, World Heritage Day was celebrated with much anticipation at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida. Starting the special assembly with customary Morning Prayer, important facts and reasons about celebrating the day every year on 18th April were shared with students. Highlighting the dire need of preserving our heritage, required steps towards conserving India’s heritage were also shared.

Since every year a different genre is chosen by UNESCO as the World Heritage Day theme, “Sustainable Tourism” was declared as the theme for this year’s celebrations. Grade 5 students presented a ppt which talked about eco-friendly tourists, and how one should become a responsible tourist while traveling the world/country.

Students from Grade VII- A staged an exceptional short play with an aim to create awareness about conserving our “Building Heritage.” After the delightful commemoration that included sharing of thoughts and poems, Heritage day celebrations came to an end with an oath taking ceremony. Everyone present took an oath to protect the legacy of our rich heritage intact, and make every possible effort to protect, promote and preserve all kinds of national heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Manisha Bhagee - Academic Co-ordinator, Primary Wing, encouraged students to live and promote Indian Heritage as it’s a symbol of pride and uniqueness for every citizen of the country.

“Our Heritage and ideals – the things which we live by and teach our children are preserved or diminished by how freely we exchange ideas and feelings”
