Every year, Global Indian International School, conducts a Global Student Exchange Programme with an aim to generate a global outlook and citizenship among its students. Keeping the tradition alive, this year too, GIIS Schools all over the world have come together to felicitate learning and encourage entrepreneurial skills.
On 19th July, 2016, the students and teachers from GIIS Noida (India), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Chinchwad (India) came together for a knowledge exchange session on the topic ‘Green Business Ideas’, where the students had to present an economical business plan along with a 3D model to support their ideas. The session began with GIIS Kuala Lumpur presenting their idea of ‘Farm to Fork to Farm’ which focussed on developing an eco-friendly system that recycled waste or leftover food into compost and animal feed. The presentation focused on benefits, challenges, cost and other factors which play an important factor in making business a huge success.
GIIS Noida, on the other hand, started their turn with a refreshment – serving delicacies in plastic bowls, to be eaten with plastic spoons. None could guess that GIIS Noida could choose ‘Edible Cutlery’ as their ‘Green Business Idea’ with such effort and preparation. Group of 5 students, one after the other explained the plan on how edible cutlery could be used instead of plastic, for eating food at work or restaurants. Each one of them emphasized on the economic value this idea adds to the whole business project. Also, it can be started at home with a minimal investment as the ingredients used to prepare the cutlery are easily available. The plan showcased, clearly outlined the harmful effects of using plastic spoons on the food and body, and how using edible cutlery made of cereals like all-purpose flour, bread, etc. can serve the purpose. The cutlery made at home can also be eaten without worrying about the harmful effects of the former option available. Their presentation ended with tasting the cutlery made from household cereals which tasted better than any other cutlery variant available.
Lastly, GIIS Chinchwad, Pune, presented ‘Grid Connected Solar Rooftop Modules’ as their ‘Green Business Idea’ that focussed on generating solar energy using a grid solar system. A team of nine students presented their knowledge by outlining various aspects of the business plan. Students also presented various models required for a smooth functioning of the idea put forward. Put simply, a sustainable idea that intended to combine sustainable living with viable business sense.
All in all, it was a great learning experience for each student present along with the respective teachers of the school. The students got an opportunity to understand various business models, and put forth questions that broadened their learning horizons.
Let’s see what other knowledge exchange sessions have in store for all our students.
