To commemorate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, GIIS Noida students conducted the Special Assembly on Gandhi Jayanti (1st October, 2015). Students from classes I to VIII participated in the programme that was aimed towards creating awareness and inculcating Gandhian values of humanity, brotherhood and secularism. The students were involved in various activities related to Gandhi@aps@s life . The auspicious day was started with paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Ms. Nandita Das Gupta, Principal GIIS Noida, along with other teachers garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
The assembly started with the Sarvadharma Prarthna, a prayer to all religious beliefs sung by the choir group. Masters of the ceremony, Preesha and Samiksha of class VI, shared valuable information on the life of the Mahatma and Lal Bahadur Shastri, celebrating the birth anniversary of two great leaders on 2nd October.
Gandhiji, the father of the nation was a pioneer of truth and non-violence. He started the ‘satyagraha’ movement for the Indian freedom struggle. He played a significant role in achieving independence for India from British rule. His role in Indian freedom movement was highlighted by the students of class VI. His quotes were beautifully recited by the students. Shlokas from Geeta was recited by Navya Pandey of class IV and translated in Hindi by Aniket Panthri of class VIII. This was followed by a mime act on Gandhian values of secularism and equality by the students. At the end of the assembly, our choir group presented Gandhi’s favourite bhajan “vaishnav jan to tene kahiye je”. The assembly ended with the words of the principal, explaining the intrinsic values of universal values.
The day was filled with an array of activities for students from classes I to VIII. All the activities were designed keeping in mind the great leader- Mahatma Gandhi and his teachings.
Classses I and II joined dots and coloured pictures from Gandhi’s life. Classes III and IV engaged in a collage making competition on Gandhian values, using various materials, photographs and quotations. Class V worked on events of Gandhi’s life by placing a minimum of five pictures in correct order. Classes VI to VIII participated in an extempore speech inter-house competition. The topics were on Ahimsa, Honesty, Peace, Equality and Religious Tolerance.
As a mark of tribute, GIIS Noida decided to dedicate a full week on cleanliness drive, starting on 5th October and ending on 9th October 2015. All students from classes IV to VIII, along with their teachers started the cleanliness drive and are sensitized towards the importance of keeping our surroundings clean.
