GIIS Leadership Lecture Series with Social Activist Dr. Laxmi Gautam on Women Empowerment

As part of the GIIS Leadership Lecture Series, GIIS Noida invited Dr.  Laxmi Gautam, as the key speaker to a session on ‘Empowering Women’ held on 24th September 2016 at the school auditorium.

Women empowerment is an essential tool to achieve the goal of societal development.  Empowering women may easily help to grow each and every member of the family without any extra effort. Therefore, the roles of parents and teachers grow manifold in motivating the girl child to become independent and self-reliant while sensitising the boy to respect women.

To enlighten the parents and teachers of Global Indian International School Noida and spread awareness on women empowerment, Dr. Laxmi Gautam Addressed the core issues of gender discrimination and urged the audience to educate and sensitise the young minds in the capacity of parents and educators.

Dr. Laxmi works for the welfare of women and windows. She has won several accolades for her work, including the Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2015 by President Pranab Mukherjee  and The Women Transforming India Award -  a combined initiative of the Indian Government’s NITI Ayog and the United Nations for womenwho make a difference”. In 2011, she even founded Kanak Dhara, an NGO that works for the cause of the widows of Vrindavan.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Laxmi spoke at length about the issues women have been facing in our country since decades. She emphasized on the significance of “equal upbringing” of girls and boys at home, and also discussed how parents and teachers can sensitize boys to respect girls and treat treat them as their equals, which in turn will help in shaping the future of the society by offering a safe, just and dignified environment to every gender.

Moving ahead with the session, Dr. Gautam spoke about the existing gender inequality and pitiable conditions of women that exists in urban and rural areas of the country. Emphasising on the need of empowerment, she encouraged the audience to take up the responsibility of nurturing a girl child so that she can become self-empowered, self-motivated, self-reliant and independent regardless of her gender.

Concluding the session, Ms. Nandita Dasgupta thanked Dr. Laxmi Gautam for her inspirational words. “The Leadership Lecture Series is a part of our ongoing endeavour to inspire and delight young minds. The motivating lecture from Dr. Gautam gives us great inspiration, as educators, to continue striving towards the goal of creating a better and brighter India.” She said.
