FILMIT: A Workshop Initiative by INTACH

FILMIT Workshop was organized by the INTACH officials to bring out the best of talents in film making among students participating in the workshop. The workshop was divided into two aspects i.e. Content and Technical, carried out over two days. The Content Aspect was held first, and was attended by five students from GIIS Noida; Saksham Mehta (Grade-7), Rhea Tiwari (Grade-7), Sammeksha Srivastava (Grade-7), Prisha Yadav (Grade-7) and Aditya Keshwani (Grade -8), along with the teacher Ms. Jyoti Bisht.

Day 1- An introductory session was given by Ms. Purnima Dutt (Director, HECS) who focussed on spreading heritage and cultural awareness among today’s youth, followed by an informative session on varied themes of movie making. GIIS Noida students learnt about themes and techniques relative to family traditions, conservation of water, flora and fauna of the state, nearby areas and heritage occupations. They also watched films made by the students in the last few years of FILMIT’s existence.

Mr. Faisal Alkazi, an eminent theatre personality, film director and author of some immensely popular children’s books (The Danger Within: An Activity Book on Occupational Health Hazard, Naina’s Village, etc.), introduced the students to the process of film making. He shared valuable insights on how to choose a theme and a valid subject, create an accurate opening note, add suspense, etc. that makes a short film crisp and concise.

Mr. Alkazi also laid emphasis on the importance of music, personification and animation in film making. All this and more was well received by the students present. Concluding Day 1, a healthy discussion on same took place, where the students from various schools of Delhi participated and put forth innovative ideas.

Day 2- Mr. Ankit Pogula and Ms. Shreya Kakriya from TUNING FORK FILMS introduced the participants to film making. Group of 5 students from GIIS Noida, namely: Pratham Chopra (Grade – 8), Tanishq Tyagi (Grade – 8), Saksham Mehta (Grade – 7), Adwitiya Singh (Grade – 7), and Abhay Bhaskar (Grade – 7) along with Ms. Shazia Sadar got an opportunity to be a part of this technical aspect of the workshop.

Second day of the workshop helped the students to explore about different shots and productions. Later they were briefed about various angles of shooting like from front to over the shoulders, high to low, and panoramic angles. They also shot a 1-1.5 minute video on a topic of their choice.

Our students made two movies i.e. “Know about INTACH” made by Pratham and Tanishq, and “Tour of INTACH’s Office” by Saksham, Adwitiya and Abhay. Ms. Purnima Dutt, during her interview, shared that INTACH has been associated with GIIS family for almost a decade now, and is like a Darohar to her, which is also the name of GIIS Noida’s Heritage club that bagged First Prize for the “Best Heritage Club at INTACH 2015-16” at all India level.

FILMIT workshop was a great platform for students to learn about film making and its technicalities. Students from our campus had a great time and now are all geared up for shooting more and more films.
