“The theatre is certainly a place for learning about the brevity of human glory: oh all those wonderful glittering absolutely vanished pantomime!” - Iris Murdoch
The drama class was an exciting one when the students put together bits and pieces of the various postures and gestures in the form of skits. The themes were mutually decided between the dramatists and the drama teacher. 7 skits were presented by the students and each skit lasted for 5 minutes. They learnt to perform as a group, emote, take position, deliver dialogues and accommodate each other on stage. The students were introduced to the professional approach towards performance; about not missing lines or fumbling on stage and finishing within the scheduled time. The previous classes had been focused towards developing the individual skill sets like listening, pausing, spacing out and presenting, but in this class the students learnt how to combine all the skills and present a complete story.
"This is the first time my students got an opportunity to act in a group. They were excited to show their acting skills and also learnt to be a good audience. They need to watch carefully while each group is presenting so that they can critique the plays and share feedback. This helps in identifying the shortfalls and handling of negative feedback." Said Ms. Meeta Mishra.
Through skits, the students learn to hold a thought and express the sequence of occurrences that emerge as a story and dramatics is the art of engrossing the audience in the plot through dialogue and body language. At the end of it the young dramatists felt important and confident about themselves. The objective was achieved.
