The drama class was marked as the ‘day of challenge’. In the previous classes, Ms. Meeta Mishra had established team dynamics through a ‘game of five’. It is one of the simplest, yet most challenging drama games where the actors follow commands to the count of each number. The current session was a challenging one as the instruction levels went up to the highest number of counts. Each command like, ‘Silence’, ‘Symbol’, ‘Tree’, ‘Bird’, ‘Stone’, ‘Fish’, ‘Statue’ etc., was linked to facial expressions and gestures. Every command is a short module by itself as the students change their orientation with each stimulus. The mind becomes alert and the awareness to the surroundings grows in many folds. Fast-paced city life and the emerging issues of nuclear families have reduced both social and interactive skills. The prerequisite to building these skill sets is self-discipline and focus. The use of this exercise was to teach the students the relative uses and values of each approach that would bring in self-discipline and eventually improve concentration.
