Annual Sports Day 2014The 2nd Annual Sports Day of GIIS Noida was held in December 2014, with great zest and fervour. All GIIS students, from Pre-primary to class VII participated in the event. The Sports Day began with a spectacular March Past by students from classes V to VII. The Chief Guest for the event, Dr Richa Sood, a reputed educationist and a former representative of Indian women’s Hockey team - as well as a noted Netball player took the salute and declared the meet open. Present on this occasion was, Mr Atul Temurnikar, Chairman - Global Schools Foundation who handed over the lighted torch to mark the start of the sports fiesta. He addressed the gathering of parents and shared with them the future plans of GIIS network of schools. Ms Nandita Das Gupta, Principal GIIS Noida welcomed the parents and highlighted the importance of sports and physical fitness.

The students of classes Kindergarten presented “Surya Namaskar”; Yogic exercises - showing discipline and control in the agile bodies of these little children which left the audience enthralled. The students of classes I and II presented a Flexi-pole drill. Students from Pre-primary to class II participated in a number of fun races, like Balloon race, Laughing Buddha race , Number fun race, Crab race, Hulla Hoop race and Cross the Bridge. Students from classes III to VII competed in the 100 m. Sprint; sack race and relay races. The races were thrilling and most of them concluded in a nail biting finish. The brilliant Taekwondo display by the students of grades 1- 4 had the guests holding their breath as they watched the moves performed by the students, showcasing women’s safety . Aerobics drill performed by classes III to VI received a thunderous applause for their energetic and rhythmic moves. The race track was the centre of the annual sports event as children proved their mettle in true spirit of sportsmanship.

The best award for the athlete of the year went to :

1. Boys (std 3-7) Ritendra Singh Baghel - class V A
2. Girls (std 3-7) Pranjali Singh - class IV A

Children competed and represented their respective houses viz., Chrysanthemum, Hibiscus, Orchid and Sunflower with a great spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork. The winners for both field and off-field events were felicitated with medals and certificates. “Chrysanthemum House” was declared as the Champion House of 2014-2015 with maximum number of medals.
