Field trips are a great way of breaking the classroom monotony and bringing the practical aspect of learning into play. It bridges the gap between education and hands on learning, and allows students to learn through visuals, fun activities and informal discussions with their teachers and peers; it helps them understand the concepts better. Studies have shown that students who have been engaged in outside learning exercises out perform their peers in studies and life in general which imparts a direct impact onto their confidence and growth levels. Promoting life skills and visual skill development among students, tiny tots of the Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida were taken on a field trip to Lodhi Garden located near the Safdarjung tomb, New Delhi. Before starting the bright sunny day full of fun and laughter, a lot of pre-planning was done by the teachers to ensure complete safety and security of the children. Ms. Rachna Jain- Coordinator, Pre-primary performed an inspection of the ground to survey and check for any possibility/sign of mis-happening. Teachers on the other hand briefly instructed students on how to behave, not talk to strangers, walk in a queue and keep an eye on their friends, maintain cleanliness in the garden, be in groups and share food with their friends apart from love, happiness and the bond. Children were briefed in class about the importance of the place, where they were being taken and a clipping were also shown on Lodhi Garden in smart class so that they can relate to the place. There was a lot of excitement about the day out among teachers and our tiny tots for they were stepping outside the classroom into the lap of nature. The weather was just perfect for a trip to the lush greens of the city. Teachers, sports teachers, admin officer, medical staff and the transport in-charge accompanied students throughout the day. Happy to see the natural surroundings, little munchkins of the campus delightly glanced through the huge variety of flora and fauna present. As they strolled, and stumbled upon a small pond full of ducks that left them awestruck. Children enjoyed the vastness of the garden and shared their food with their friends, and took an educational tour of tomb and the green house built within. The objectives of organizing this field trip were correctively achieved as students got a chance to know the rich cultural heritage they are a part of, and learn through visuals they saw and experienced during the visit. |
