A day out at the Coca cola Plant; students of GIIS Noida live it up

Coca-Cola plant visit

It was an exciting day for students of Grade VI as they boarded the bus along with their teachers for a visit to the Coca Cola plant on 10th February 2016. As they reached the sprawling factory space, the Coke Team guided them to the entire assembly line. The process of making the most preferred drink, from start to finish, was introduced through a video presentation. They were guided through the plant and the officials explained to them all the functions of the plant from stocking supplies all the way to product distribution. The students were placed in three groups for their visit and then each group was taken around the manufacturing units, starting from storage of raw materials, plastic moulds, caps, cartons, cans, concentrated syrup, water, sugar and carbon-dioxide to containers required for the drink and finally the preparation of the drink. The Safety Officer told the students that the plant produces 600 cans in one minute. Students observed the entire production process. The packaging team led the students to a filling area where they showcased the various cans, the packing of cans and also explained the different aspects of logistics. At the end of the tour, the students interacted with the Coco Cola officials, which further helped them to enhance their understanding. At the end of the walk-through they enjoyed sipping on their favourite soft drinks and were simply delighted to receive gift hampers which gave a perfect ending to the trip to the Coca Cola plant.

Visiting the Coca Cola plant was a real eye-opener for the students as they had a first-hand understanding of the complete assembly line and learned to view their favourite drink as a product from the food and beverage industry’s perspective. The students made notes and would use the observations of the factory visit for their upcoming projects. Field trips and project based learning  are not only fun-filled activities but they also help students learn conceptually.
