DUBAI, Feb18, 2019:

Sports helps develop important life skills, which is why it is an integral partof the 9 GEMs holistic framework. It helps build character and provides an opportunity to display self – confidence, patience, zest and sportsmanship.

On the 14th of February, GIIS Dubai, hosted its 1st Annual Sports Meet, Athleta 2019, for the Primary Wing.  The celebration was a day filled with lots of excitement. Children from grades 1 to 6 participated enthusiastically to make the event a huge success.

The chief guests for the day were Colonel Mustafa Abdullah and Policeman Mr. Marwan. The event started with the welcome of the guests by Principal Mr. Ramesh Mudgal, followed by the rendition of the verses of the Holy Quran by Jana and Joshua from Grade 1.

Children from all the four houses namely, Orchid, Sunflower, Chrysanthemum and Hibiscus impressively came together to present a well-coordinated Inter-House March Past, a highly competitive event where all the four houses eyed for the first place.

The students entered into the real spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath of sportsmanship administered by the Principal. Another highlight of the day was the lighting of the Torch carried by the School Head Girl Aadya Bhann, Hibiscus House Captain Ameli Tyagi, Sunflower House Captain Dharmik Kiran, Chrysanthemum House Captain Ila Gupta, Orchid House Captain Malvika Mungre followed by the School Sports Captain Vanshika Shah.

The march past was followed by a colorful house drill, where children performed to lively and peppy music, winning the hearts of the audience. This was followed by a calming and rejuvenating Yoga session.

Once the races began, the air was filled with cheers and encouragement for the young athletes. Students of classes 1 to 6 competed in various events including long jump, short put, sprints, hurdle and relay races.

The three legged race for mothers and sack race for the fathers witnessed impressive participation and truly added to the spirit of celebration and enjoyment.

The event culminated with an award giving ceremony where the winners were announced and awarded.

Hibiscus House won the Best House Championship trophy and emerged out a winner with the maximum number of accolades .The Best March Past Presentation was also bagged by the Hibiscus House.

The Sports day at GIIS was truly an exciting event filled with team spirit, sportsmanship, determination and memories to cherish forever.
