GIIS showcased commitment to sustainable goals with a virtual Global Students Summit

In a bid to promote sustainable development and raise awareness about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, GIIS Dubai hosted the highly anticipated Global Students Summit (GSS) for Primary and Middle School. The event served as a platform for students from 8 schools to showcase their dedication to addressing pressing global issues and fostering a better future.

With the focus on SDGs, students participated in various events including mystical steps, choral recitation, declamation, debate, digital poster making, coding, and MUN paper presentation. The day began with a Quran recitation, followed by the national anthem. Mr. Antony Koshy, the Principal of GIIS Dubai, then welcomed the participants from various schools, emphasising the importance of the SDGs and the students' role in creating a sustainable future.

GIIS Dubai enthralled all with their graceful moves in the event Mystical steps where students showcased their creative dance steps focussing on SDG 14: Life under water. GIIS Dubai was adjudged the best in the event. Choral recitation combined the power of spoken words with harmony, rhythm, and unity leaving everyone spellbound. Employing various techniques such as voice projection, timing, emotional expression, and body language, performers created a mesmerising and memorable choral recitation experience. The theme for this competition was SDG 15: Life on Land. Participants recited poems highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and biodiversity. Elocution focused on the topic for this competition was SDG 1: Poverty with participants delivering speeches addressing the challenges and potential solutions related to poverty eradication.

The debate competition was a valuable platform for intellectual discourse, critical thinking, and persuasive communication and it encouraged participants to explore ideas, develop research and communication skills, and gain a deeper understanding of complex issues about Gender Equality. The digital poster making and coding competition brought forward the students’ creativity and problem solving skills while MUN paper presentations were an integral component of MUN conferences, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their research, analytical skills, and diplomatic abilities.

The event fostered a spirit of innovation, critical thinking, and collaboration among students from different grades and schools. The successful execution of the competition highlighted the commitment of GIIS Dubai towards creating awareness and actively engaging students in sustainable development initiatives.
