Adapting to New Realities in a COVID-19 World

Across the world, people are emerging from quarantine and looking out at a strange new world. While every sector is looking to adapt to new realities in COVID-19 world, the field of education is no exception. Students, parents and teachers have to adjust to some startling changes.

At Global Indian International School, we are looking at how we can continue to provide our students with the rich and engaging learning environment that they have become accustomed to, while still making safety a top priority. GIIS is one of the first few international schools in Singapore to go virtual and offer an uninterrupted learning experience to students.

New Realities in a COVID-19 World that are true for schools:

Blended Learning

Blended learning is a new concept as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many schools around the world are finding that blending learning is the best answer to addressing educational needs in the midst of pandemic.

In Blended learning students spend half of their time in the physical classroom, and the other half learning at home through virtual learning. It allows schools to minimise class sizes and adhere to social distancing.

According to EdTechReview the market for eLearning will reach a $300 billion market value by 2025.

Virtual Schools

The new reality has forced the world to come out of the myth that education should be confined to physical classrooms, with in-person instruction from a teacher.

Across the world, educators worked quickly to come up with virtual learning experiences. Parents, teachers and students alike can expect the number of virtual schools and virtual academies to increase.

Virtual schools will provide a consistent online platform for students that allow them to connect in innovative ways to teachers and other students.

According to World Economic Forum, Whether it is language apps, virtual tutoring, video conferencing tools, or online learning software, there has been a significant surge in usage since COVID-19.

The new realities during COVID-19 will require everyone to adjust to never-before ways of living. However, it's important to remember that everyone in the community needs to come together in order to fight the spread of the virus and protect the most vulnerable people in our midst.
