At GIIS Tokyo’s Summer Camp 2024, we are dedicated to nurturing creativity, curiosity, and innovation in our students. This summer, both GIIS and non-GIIS campers of all ages participated in a variety of exciting activities designed to challenge their minds, inspire their imaginations, and help them develop new skills. From robotics to 3-D art, our programs were carefully tailored to offer age-appropriate experiences that seamlessly blend learning with fun.
A Magical Learning Adventure:
Our youngest campers, ages 3-6, embarked on a magical learning adventure at Summer Camp. This program provided a relaxed summer atmosphere where young minds could retain and develop their social skills while engaging in exciting adventures and creative learning opportunities.
Each day, these little ones were immersed in activities that combined creativity with play. They enjoyed creative art projects, singing, active games, karate, and English Language Skills (ELS) classes. These activities were thoughtfully designed to foster personal growth, exploration, and the formation of new friendships. Every day brought a new art or STEM activity, ensuring that our young campers were constantly engaged, inspired, and having fun.
Robotics and Science Experimentation:
For our older campers, ages 6-12, the summer camp experience was filled with hands-on learning in robotics and science experimentation. Robotics, a field that merges engineering, programming, and creativity, captivated our students as they built robots capable of performing a range of tasks, from simple movements to complex autonomous operations. These projects provided opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways, sharpening their problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation skills.
In addition to robotics, students delved into the fundamental principles of physics, chemistry, and biology through scientific experimentation. By conducting experiments, they learned to understand scientific concepts, analyze data, and draw meaningful conclusions. This hands-on approach deepened their understanding and fueled their curiosity and passion for discovery.
The mysteries of space captured the imaginations of many of our campers, particularly those interested in space robotics. This summer, students learned about the challenges of space exploration and the critical role that robots play in this field. From designing and programming Mars rovers to creating robotic arms for satellite maintenance, our students explored how to build machines capable of operating in extreme environments.
Through these projects, they gained insights into the unique challenges of space, such as low gravity, radiation, and communication delays. They also began exploring the potential for future space missions, including the exciting possibility of human settlement on other planets.
Creativity was a key component of our camp for older students, and this summer, they had the chance to express their artistic visions through 3-D art. Using a variety of materials and digital tools, students created stunning three-dimensional pieces, from sculptures to virtual models.
This discipline allowed them to merge creativity with technical skills as they experimented with texture, form, and space. It also provided valuable insights into the relationship between art and technology, particularly in fields like animation, game design, and industrial design.
Understanding how smart devices work is essential in today’s interconnected world. At our summer camp, students explored the fascinating world of electronics, learning how to build circuits that could sense and respond to their environment. From smart home devices to wearable technology, they developed projects that demonstrated the practical applications of these systems.
These projects not only taught students about the components and functions of smart circuits but also encouraged them to think critically about the ethical and societal implications of technology. They learned to design with a purpose, considering factors such as user experience, sustainability, and security.
GIIS Tokyo’s Summer Camp was a resounding success, offering both GIIS and non-GIIS students the perfect blend of knowledge and fun. Our students accomplished remarkable work across a range of disciplines, from robotics and science experimentation to space robotics, 3-D art, and smart circuits. These projects represented the intersection of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM), showcasing the boundless creativity and innovation of our students.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and grateful for the support of our dedicated teachers and parents, who provided the encouragement and resources necessary for our students to thrive. We hope you enjoy exploring the exhibits and seeing the amazing work our students have created. Thank you for being an integral part of our educational community and for helping to make this summer camp a success.
