As part of its initiative to promote Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, GIIS Hadapsar organised a creative and engaging Best Out of Waste activity for students of Grades 3 to 5. The activity provided young learners with an opportunity to explore innovation, sustainability and responsible resource utilisation through hands-on creativity.
The students enthusiastically transformed discarded materials such as cardboard, newspapers, plastic bottles, paper rolls, ice-cream sticks and fabric pieces into useful and decorative items. Through their imaginative creations, they demonstrated how materials that are often considered waste can be given a new purpose.
The primary objective of the activity was to encourage students to think creatively, develop innovative ideas and strengthen their problem-solving and practical skills. They learned the importance of reusing and repurposing materials, conserving resources, collaborating with others and exploring sustainable solutions using simple and easily available resources.
With creativity and imagination, students crafted a variety of models, showpieces, organisers, utility items and other innovative creations. The activity enabled them to experience the process of turning discarded materials into meaningful and functional products, while also encouraging them to think beyond conventional uses of everyday objects.
The Best Out of Waste activity was an enjoyable and enriching learning experience that reinforced the message that innovation does not always require expensive materials or advanced technology. It can begin with a simple idea, responsible use of resources and the willingness to look at waste differently.
Through such experiential activities, GIIS Hadapsar continues to nurture creativity, innovation and environmental responsibility among its students, empowering them to become thoughtful problem-solvers and contribute towards building a more sustainable future.
