To mark World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5 under the United Nations Environment Programme, GIIS Hadapsar organised a special celebration encouraging students to become ambassadors of environmental conservation through creativity and collaboration.

Held as part of the school's 9GEMS™ holistic education framework, the programme aimed to instil environmental responsibility while providing students with an engaging platform to express their thoughts on sustainability. The key objectives included encouraging children to voice environmental concerns in their own words, building confidence and teamwork through performance-based learning, and making sustainability concepts relatable, memorable, and action-oriented.

The highlight of the celebration was the classroom activity titled "Voices for the Earth," in which students from Grades III to V showcased their creativity by composing and performing original songs, raps, jingles, and poems centred on environmental awareness. Each presentation featured four to six original lines and was enhanced with clapping, rhythmic desk taps, finger snaps, pencil percussion, and expressive actions, reinforcing the concept of zero-waste creativity without the use of musical instruments.

The session began with an interactive brainstorming discussion led by teachers on pressing environmental concerns such as water scarcity, plastic pollution, and the importance of increasing green cover in urban areas. Inspired by these discussions, students worked in groups to craft meaningful performances that reflected their understanding of environmental stewardship.

The classrooms buzzed with enthusiasm as students experimented with rhymes, rhythms, and expressive storytelling. The flexibility to choose between a rap, jingle, song, or poem ensured enthusiastic participation from every child. Even the quieter students confidently delivered their performances with encouragement from their peers through coordinated actions and group applause.

The celebration concluded on a high note, leaving students with a deeper appreciation of their role in protecting the environment. Through their original creations, the young learners demonstrated that meaningful change begins with awareness, creativity, and collective action, proving that every small voice raised for the Earth can inspire a brighter and more sustainable future.
