GIIS Hadapsar Encourages Self-Discovery and Experiential Learning Through Thinking Thursday Activity

The first Thinking Thursday Activity for Grade 1 and 2 students at GIIS Hadapsar was conducted with great enthusiasm, helping young learners explore themselves as individuals and understand the wonderful gift of senses that allows humans to experience the world around them.

The initiative aimed to promote critical thinking, creativity, and self-awareness among students through engaging and interactive classroom activities tailored to their age groups. For Grade 1 students, the activity titled “All About Me” focused on encouraging children to reflect on their individuality and personal preferences. The objective was to help learners express themselves confidently while building self-awareness in a fun and creative manner.

Students were given a structured worksheet where they filled in details such as their name, favourite colour, favourite food, favourite animal, hobbies, and favourite movie. They also drew self-portraits in the provided space, which helped enhance their creativity and fine motor skills.

The activity also promoted communication skills and confidence, as students shared their responses with classmates. It supported social-emotional development by helping children understand themselves better and appreciate the uniqueness of others.

Teachers observed enthusiastic participation from all students, making the session highly interactive and enjoyable. The activity successfully aligned with the school’s goal of fostering creativity and personal development in young learners.

Meanwhile, Grade 2 students explored the fascinating world of the five sense organs through a practical demonstration titled “Demonstration of Sense Organs.”

The objective of this activity was to help students understand the five sense organs and their functions through hands-on experiences and real-life examples.

Different materials were used to create five sense stations for experiential learning. For smell, students identified various fragrances using their noses. For taste, they differentiated between salty and sweet flavours using salt and sugar. For touch, they compared textures by feeling soft cotton and a rough scrubber. For sight, students observed different materials and described their appearance. For hearing, simple classroom sounds were created to help them identify and respond using their ears.

The students actively participated with great curiosity and excitement, showing eagerness to explore each activity station.

The session proved to be highly engaging and effective in reinforcing the concept of sense organs through experiential learning, making learning both meaningful and memorable for the young learners at GIIS Hadapsar.
