There is no stopping GIIS scholar Kaveri Priya Putti

In 2017, Kaveri Priya Putti, visited Singapore when she won a free trip as a prize for the Young Achiever Talent award in the Olympiad exams. Kaveri was then studying in Grade 9 at a school in Hyderabad, India. Little did she know that Singapore would be her next educational destination.

Kaveri is now a student of Grade 12 CBSE, GIIS SMART Campus. She is a Global Citizen Scholar and is 100% funded by GIIS for her education and accommodation for Grade 11 and 12.

A National Talent Search Examination Scholar in India, Kaveri is a born genius who consistently won the Olympiad for Math, Science, English and Computer Science. It was during one of these Olympiad exams, for which GIIS Hyderabad was an examination centre, that Kaveri learnt about the scholarship scheme at GIIS SMART Campus Singapore. She knew that is the right path for her future educational journey as an opportunity to study in one of the top international schools in Singapore would give her the adequate exposure before moving on to an international university in USA, UK or Europe.

Kaveri says that “SGD Ninety Thousand worth of scholarship, is something any student would like to add to his or her CV if they are looking for future scholarship options in international universities for higher studies.” She feels that GIIS is offering just the right exposure that she looks forward to before moving on to the challenging life of a university scholar.

With a stronghold in STEM subjects, Kaveri wants to use her research abilities to delve into the field of Artificial Intelligence and create something that works on the human level. Her future goal is to get a scholarship for Computer Science either at Stanford or Princeton University. Kaveri has already taken a step towards this goal by securing a 3 weeks Summer Programme at the Stanford University, which she will be attending towards the end of Grade 12.

This is not the first time that Kaveri would be attending a course at an international university. In 2018, she qualified for a similar programme at Yale University, which was 100% funded by the university under the Yale Young Global Scholars Programme. Kaveri recounts her 3 weeks at Yale University as a great learning experience where she made good friends with similar skill-sets and connections with mentors from the Ivy league college. She was involved in a project on quantum computing and also took part in a speaker series and spoke on the topic “Nothingness and I”.

Recently, Kaveri won a SheHacks Hackathon, conducted by GirlsInTech at Google Asia Pacific HQ, Singapore. Although she was the youngest member of the team there, she took the onus of designing all the technical aspects like coding and UI of the app ‘LABO - Breadwinners of Tomorrow’ that received the best Technical Innovation award at the Hackathon.

She attended the AI workshop conducted at GIIS SMART Campus and the skills learnt there helped her a lot in ideating and coding the product. Kaveri is thankful to the Principal, Ms Melissa Maria, who encouraged her to participate in the contest.

A sports enthusiast, Kaveri loves to play tennis and has won a couple of inter-school tennis tournaments, back in India. She is also a badminton expert and recently won GIIS U18 badminton girls singles held in the school.

Kaveri is one of the few scholars whose talent has been recognised by GIIS and the school is providing just the right stepping stone for her to build a bright future that is much deserved by her.
