A team of 15 students from GIIS SMART Campus delivered an outstanding performance at the JA Company of the Year (COY) 2025 National-Level Competition, held on 24 January 2026, at Nexus International School. Competing against 16 companies from leading schools across Singapore, the GIIS team emerged as National Champions, securing First Place and earning the honour of representing Singapore at the Asia-Pacific Regional Round in South Korea.
The winning company, LumaBand, impressed judges with its innovation, purpose, and execution. Developed by IB Year 1 and CBSE Grade 11 students, LumaBand is an AI-powered fall detection wristband designed to address delayed assistance following falls among the elderly. Paired with a simple mobile application, the device boasts 94% accuracy and sends instant SMS alerts to caregivers, prioritising accessibility, reliability, and real-world impact through an affordable one-time pricing model.
This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication and teamwork of the GIIS–COY 2025 team: Iraj Gupta, Atiksh Rathi, Arnav Rai, Ishanth Chandra, Naisha Raturi, Kanika Prithiani, Suraj Krishna, Avinash Reddy, Kashvi Kanchan, Srishti Hariharan, Advika Yadav, Diya Viswanath, Duaa Ahamed Sherief, Anuraag Vombatkere, and Aarav Bhinde, under the guidance of Ms Sonal, COY Mentor.
Despite having only 2.5 months of preparation, compared to over six months for many competing schools, the team demonstrated exceptional discipline, strategic thinking, and collaboration.
With this victory, Team GIIS COY 2025 now advances to the Asia-Pacific Regional Round, where they will represent Singapore alongside teams from across Southeast Asia. The regional schedule will be announced shortly, with the competition set to take place in South Korea.
This milestone stands as a proud reflection of GIIS students’ innovation, leadership, and readiness to create meaningful impact beyond the classroom.
