The new GIIS SMART Campus, which commences operation in July 2018, will use facial recognition technology as the students’ identity system. The technology will play the dual role of marking students’ attendance and acting as a safety apparatus.
The technology-driven Campus has 300 facial recognition devices installed outside all the key facilities. Every classroom is equipped with facial recognition device at the entry point. The device will mark the attendance of 3500 students. “This will eradicate the traditional need for teachers to manually mark students’ attendance and teachers can use this extra time for other lesson needs,” said Mr Atul Temurnikar, Chairman and co-founder of GIIS.
The same device will also mark the students’ movement between one classroom to another and will ensure that they are safely present inside the campus.
The facial recognition system will be coupled with Smart ID cards based on the RFID technology, given to every student. Safety and security inside premises is the top priority at the SMART Campus and more than 600 CCTV cameras and round-the-clock security guards have been appointed to prevent unauthorised entry in the campus. The vigilance will be on 24x7.
