Four GIIS students to attend Cambridge MUN at London

Four students from GIIS IB Year 1 will participate in the two-day Cambridge International Model United Nations (MUN) High Schools Conference to be held in United Kingdom.

Abhirup Thakur, Shivani Shashank Welling, Prithvi Vijaykumar and Aryan Bhatnagar of the GIIS SMART Campus (representing Costa Rica) will be part of the conference which has been conducting an MUN for University students for the last 23 years. Since last year, the experience was re-created for high school students with great success.

This year too, Cambridge has planned on treating the delegates to an experience like no other. All delegates will be housed in Cambridge Colleges, with the GIIS team put up at Clare College Cambridge. A three-course formal dinner will be held on Saturday night to acclimatise students to other delegates and the college environment. Debates will be held in the Mill Lane lecture theatres. All these experiences are designed to give students a brief experience of students’ university life-style.

MUN conferences provide a forum where students can engage in political and diplomatic discussions and get a taste of what it really takes to effect change at the highest level. The conferences will be filled with debates, where GIIS students - representing Costa Rica - will debate in UNICEF, UN Women and UNESCO besides the main United Nations. Students are expected to table a resolution and get it passed with consensus at the end of the debates.

After the main event, GIIS will take its students on a day-long city tour of London, where they will visit the renowned Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Buckingham Palace Staterooms, London Tower Bridge and the Big Ben-Westminster. The students will return to Singapore later.
