Celebrating excellence at Global School Awards 2024

On 26 July 2024, the GIIS SMART Campus hosted the prestigious Global School Awards 2024, recognising the exceptional achievements of students in CBSE Years 10 and 12, as well as IBDP Year 1. This event celebrated the academic and extracurricular successes of students while honouring the unwavering support of their teachers and parents.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring address from School Principal Ms Melissa Maria. In her speech, Ms Maria praised the resilience and hard work of the entire school community, emphasising the vital role of perseverance and dedication in achieving success. A highlight of the event was the 100 per cent attendance award for the semester, awarded to those who demonstrated exceptional commitment to their education. Notably, Ms Saradamani Ponnan received this accolade for the 12th consecutive year.

The awards ceremony also included the prestigious Global Future-Ready Merit (GFRM) Scholarship, recognising students who excelled in their CBSE Board examinations. The Ambassador Abid Hussain GIIS Award for Academic Proficiency was presented to the top three students in each class, followed by the Subject Proficiency Awards, which celebrated excellence in specific academic subjects. Other notable awards included the Justice C.S. Dharmadhikari GIIS Award for Co-curricular Excellence and the Chandu Borde GIIS Award for Sports Excellence, recognising achievements beyond the classroom and in athletics, respectively.

A highlight of the evening was a captivating Bharatanatyam dance performance by students from middle and high school. The Guest of Honour, Dr Rajesh Chandrasekhara Panicker, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), delivered a compelling address. Dr Panicker urged students to pursue their passions and remain focused on their goals, despite challenges and discouragement.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Multiple Awards category, which honoured students who demonstrated excellence across various domains. Among these were the GSF President’s Award for All-Around Excellence and the inaugural GIIS Hero Award. The GIIS Hero Award was presented to IB Year 1 student Janhavi Yadav for her heroic act of resuscitating an elderly woman, exemplifying extraordinary bravery and compassion.

The Global School Awards 2024 was a momentous event, celebrating the outstanding achievements of GIIS students and recognising the crucial support of their parents and teachers.
