Safety Week: Empowering students with essential safety skills

GIIS Nagpur observed Safety Week by engaging students in an exciting and informative week-long programme dedicated to the safety and security of the students. Our students participated in various activities to promote safety awareness and equip them with essential life skills.

Pre-primary students began their safety journey with a focus on bus safety. They learned the importance of following bus safety rules such as wearing seat belts, staying away from bus wheels, and always remaining seated. The highlight of the day was a practical session aboard a real bus, where children experienced the firsthand importance of these safety measures.

On the following day, students explored the topic of safety from strangers. Children were introduced to safe circles that included themselves, their families, friends, community helpers, and the boundaries surrounding interaction with strangers. This interactive session helped students develop a clear understanding of whom they can trust and how to stay safe around people who aren’t a part of their inner circle.

Our students also got the opportunity to learn about gadget safety. They were shown a display of safe and unsafe objects to create awareness about potential hazards. This engaging activity was followed by an exciting quiz to test their knowledge and ensure that the safety lessons they learnt remain stuck with them for long.

Focus on playground safety was another highlight of the safety week. Educators imparted valuable lessons on playground equipment safely and encouraged students to be mindful of their surroundings promoting a safe and enjoyable playtime experience.

Teachers explained ground safety rules during ECA activities ensuring students had a comprehensive understanding of safe behavior in various environments. The students actively participated in these activities which left a lasting impression of the importance of following caution and certain safety protocols.

The Safety Week was organised to highlight the importance of safety in all spheres of life in order to prevent any mishappening and accidents resulting from the lack of awareness. The main objective was to create awareness about all safety principles including road safety, human health safety, and environmental safety.

The safety and well-being of our students have always been our top priority, and Safety Week was an opportunity for GIIS Nagpur to reinforce this commitment.  Safety education helps children become aware of the possible hazards in their environment. Also, the students were encouraged to convey the Safety Week learnings to their parents and guardians.
