GIIS Nagpur celebrated and honoured the Father of the Nation on his 154th birthday by gathering for a special assembly. The event took place in the school's Multipurpose Hall (MPH) and witnessed enthusiastic participation by students, teachers, staff, and the principal of the school.   

The assembly started with Gandhiji’s favourite Bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je '', sung by the choir group. Students made slogans on universal values of kindness, brotherhood, and caring for society and also shared valuable information on the life of Mahatma. 

Students dressed up in white narrated a heartfelt poem on the theme “God has no Religion’ highlighting Gandhiji’s emphasis on secularism. It was both enlightening and thought-provoking. 

Further, our kindergarten students put up a dance performance highlighting the importance of agriculture. A vibrant dance performance showcased the idea deeply cherished by Gandhiji. The performance was met with enthusiastic applause. 

The defining moment of the event was a skit enacted by our students recreating key moments from the Independence movement. The audience was moved by both the performance and the black-and-white photos of Gandhiji displayed on the huge LED screen backstage. It was a moment of pride and nostalgia for everyone. Also, the Gandhian philosophy of the spinning wheel was elucidated by a student emphasising self-help, self-service, self-contentment, and austerity. 

Another highlight of the event was when a student dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi delivered a passionate speech on truth and non-violence that binds us to one another. Further, he added, “All men are essentially equal and there is an element of goodness present in every man, therefore disturbances, hatred, violence, and immorality can be removed from life by means of love and sacrifice.” The heartfelt speech had an optimistic impact on the listeners and left everyone in retrospect.  

The event concluded with the audience standing in respect as the national anthem echoed through the auditorium, a poignant reminder of the values and sacrifices that led to India’s independence. 

The Gandhi Jayanti celebration at GIIS Nagpur was a heartfelt tribute to a great leader and a reminder of the values he espoused. It left everyone inspired to follow the path of truth, non-violence, and compassion in their lives, making the event a resounding success.
