Creativity runs in the GIIS family, and a bunch of our little artists proved it again when they participated in the Tatinis exhibition along with veterans in the field of art. Tatinis – A Love Affair with Art is a curated art exhibition held annually in Singapore. This year the exhibition was held at the F1 Pit Building, in June 2018.
The exhibition featured 400 pieces of artwork, sold at affordable prices. Thirty-six students from GIIS, exhibited their paintings, a mixture of acrylic and mixed medium, in the Art Show. The art lovers from Grade 8 to Grade 12 students were given the theme “perspective”, and they came up with some brilliant work. Quite a few of the creations were also bought by visitors.
The participants looked chirpy and excited and largely attributed their motivation to their art teachers who were present at the venue to cheer them up. Participants shared that their art teacher has guided them along the way on how to visualize the theme, and then bring it live to the canvas.
Anagha Nair's work on Self-Perspective showed a cat licking spilt milk, while the reflection makes the cat appear like a lion. Ms Nair said that she was helped by her art teacher at every stage, from conceptualization to giving the final touch. For example, the idea to use palette knife style for the fur of the cat was provided by her teacher.
Samya Sahu's shows the pleasant side of tropical weather which is otherwise perceived as thunderous and scary. Samya, wants to pursue a career in art and said that her art teacher always inspires her to think more abstract and put deeper thoughts in her creations.
The works were displayed amidst a bunch of professional and international artists, and received appreciation from art lovers. The organizer of the exhibition, Ruby Gupte, was highly impressed with the creations of GIIS students. In her words, “the artworks of GIIS students are quite vibrant and matured.” She also shared that some of the curators were impressed by the paintings created by the GIIS kids.
