On the 27th of July a forum for active learning took place at Balestier campus. It happened when the policemen from Kampong Java Neighbourhood Police Centre, on an invitation from school, visited the Balestier children.

The visit was planned as an activity for the Kindergarten theme of the month – ‘Community Helpers’. Children of Nursery, Kindergarten and Class 1 took turns to meet the most popular Community Helper. Children were thrilled when the police team demonstrated the use of the baton, shield, bullet proof jackets, hand cuffs, walkie talkie, a real guns and bullets! They also enacted situations of encounter with a ‘bad guy’! The police car was another point of major attraction for the little children!

The police team interacted with the children and rewarded those who enthusiastically had the correct answer for all their questions! The little Nursery and K1 children were delighted when the Community Helper had cute tokens to offer them!

“I am going to become a policeman when I grow up, so I can put away the bad people”, said Dhroova Baug (K2B) while Sanjana Rao (K2E) remarked, “I liked the policeman showing the shield and gun to protect people”!

The class 1 children were enthusiastic in asking the policemen a number of questions, which were patiently answered by the team.

Though the police team was committed to make presentations for an hour, their stay lasted almost 2 hours, as they were very impressed with the curiosity and confidence of the children.
