The Annual Sports Day, themed sports oodles of doodles held in February 2018, was a day filled with fervour and excitement experienced amidst thrills, shrills and cheers.
The day started off with the unfurling of the sports flag and declaration of the Annual Sports Day open by the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Sherwin Foo (Team Singapore's Athlete) and Ms Madhu Khanna (Principal of GIIS Queenstown) followed by the arrival of the mascot ‘Three Wise monkeys’ and ‘Friend of Singa’.
The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the Inter-House March Past, a highly competitive event where the four houses eyed for the first place, followed by the Torch Run by students, who won laurels for GIIS in sports like basketball, cricket, badminton, tennis, soccer and athletics followed with an oath being administered by the Sports Captain, Pranav Murukeshan.

The students of Kindergarten put up an excellent performance through the dance titled ‘little feet’ and ‘Snap and Clap’. Students of Grade 1 and 2 presented a welcome display ‘Flower of Happiness’. The young champions were exposed to a plethora of events such as track events including various races and relays. The surprise element was a peppy Zumba drill and an energizing Yoga drill, which enthralled the audience with the rhythmic graceful moves.
The Calisthenics drills showcased Cricket basketball and badminton. The students exhibited high levels of discipline, concentration and perseverance through their well-rehearsed moves. All the performances indicated the hard work and dedication of the students and teachers-in-charge who had trained them with utmost diligence.
Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. Students of classes 3 to 6 competed class-wise in events including sprints and relays. Students from all grades bagged prizes in various events. The winner students were congratulated with medals and certificates.
The games organized for the parents saw an impressive participation as well.
At the end of the day, students departed with a broad smile on their faces as the Chrysanthemum House emerged as the Champion in March Past and Sunflower House was declared winner in Athletics events. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
