Students of GIIS East Coast Campus in Classes 8 and 9 collaborated on a series of exciting English language projects throughout the academic year of 2022-23. The experiential learning initiative, under the guidance of their English teacher Ms Ashwini Deshpande, aimed to enhance the linguistic skills of the students by creating storybooks, designing board games, and creating unique crossword puzzles.
As part of the programme, Class 8 CLSP students worked on creating their own vocabulary banks by designing crossword puzzles based on specific themes. After a brainstorming session, each student worked on the puzzles, incorporating new words and expanding their vocabulary in the process. This project proved to be a fun and engaging way for the students to develop their English language skills.
The students from Class 9 CBSE created board games Wordika - filling in blanks and Tensious - a game of tenses that helped them sharpen their linguistic skills. Students from other classes even came to visit and play these captivating board games while learning something new. Based on basic yet often neglected rules of English grammar, these games provided learning with fun.
The IGCSE Grade 9 students worked on creating two books; ‘Tales of Ourselves’ and ‘Voices of Ourselves’ with interesting stories and descriptions. Each student contributed one descriptive and one narrative writing to the books which feature a plethora of topics and views.
All in all, the experience of working on these projects enhanced the students’ vocabulary, understanding, and appreciation of the language we use daily. The learning journey yielded multifold benefits as the classes could share their acquired knowledge with students from other classes. The students had invaluable learning throughout the process learning teamwork and honing their skills.
