Secondary students embrace environmental responsibility with beach clean-up activity

On May 19, GIIS East Coast Campus students got an excellent opportunity to engage in a beach clean-up activity as part of the school's community outreach programme. The enthusiastic Grade 8 students actively participated in cleaning Pasir Ris Beach, joining forces with members of SSMC (Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Company Pte. Ltd) staff.

Organised into groups of 5, the students embarked on their beach cleaning mission equipped with picks and garbage bags. After the activity concluded, a friendly competition was held as the groups compared the amount of garbage they had collected. Remarkably, one group managed to gather an impressive 90 kg of trash, while another group collected a modest 5 kg.

Overall, it was a productive day for the students, who felt a sense of accomplishment in contributing to their community. Through initiatives like this, GIIS fosters the development of good moral values in students, instilling a sense of responsibility and nurturing them to become conscientious citizens of the future.
