The badging ceremony for the term 2 prefect council was held on 16th October 2017 for classes 6 to 10 and on 17th October 2017 for classes 3 to 5 during the morning assemblies. The ceremony began with the school choir singing a mellifluous number. Ms. Melissa Maria, Principal GIIS East Coast handed the scroll to the student prefects of the respective classes while their proud parents pinned the badges for them.
After all the prefects received their badges and scrolls, Mr C.V.K Sastry, Vice Principal of the school administered the oath for the newly selected leaders. The prefect council dutifully repeated the oath and vouched to do their best in executing their responsibilities. Following the oath taking ceremony, was the Principal’s address in which Ms. Melissa Maria emphasized on being fair while executing their duties as the prefects of their classes. She also congratulated the parents of the newly selected prefects for playing a pivotal role in their child’s leadership journey in our school.
In order to provide more leadership roles to the students, from this year a new initiative has been introduced. Two prefects are assigned for every term from each class; each prefect serving a term of six months. The prefect council comprises of a boy and girl representative from each class from grade 3 to 10 for every term.
John C Maxwell has rightly defined leadership as, leadership is not about title, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another. This quote rightfully sums up the school’s endeavour in creating a student council which is a good role model for the other pupils.
