The GIIS East Coast Campus hosted yet another successful virtual event - The ‘Model United Nations (MUN)' conference. The conference was held on the 27th of May 2021, virtually, through Zoom meetings. The Model UN conference is an opportunity for the students to practise research, public speaking, teamwork and writing skills in a structured environment. It also offers them an experience of a real UN session.

The event was held from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm with three committee sessions and two breaks. Students from Classes 7, 8, 9 CBSE/CLSP/IGCSE participated in this event. Six student representatives were selected as Chairs and Co-chairs to
lead three committees - General Assembly 1, General Assembly 2 and UNICEF. Each participating student was assigned as a delegate of a country in their respective committees.

Pertinent topics like Racial discrimination, Women empowerment in the workforce and Impact on education during COVID were discussed and debated upon. The delegates presented their country’s stance based on the given topic after
thorough research and information gathering. Alliances were formed among the countries and strategies made, resulting in a fruitful and informative debate. A final, innovative resolution was arrived at in each committee after careful consideration and discussion on each of the clauses presented by the alliances. The newcomers to the MUN as well as the experienced ones had a rewarding experience. The event culminated in an award ceremony along with an address by the Principal Mr CVK Sastry.

The awards categories included, ‘Best Delegate’, ‘Outstanding Delegate’, 'Honorary mention’, ‘Verbal Commendation’ and ‘Best Position Paper’. The participants and audience had an enriching experience.
