Five students from grade 5, GIIS East Coast along with their teacher Ms. Pooja Dogra and Vice Principal, Mr. C.V.K Shastry attended the Mid-Autumn celebration held at Meetoh School, Punggol on 5th October from 5 p.m. to 9p.m.

On arrival the guest were given a traditional Chinese welcome and were accompanied to the school auditorium to watch a cultural extravaganza put up by the students of the school comprising of a graceful Chinese traditional dance, mellifluous choral singing, symphonic Chinese orchestra performance and breathtaking display of Chinese Martial Art.

The Mid-Autumn carnival had various stalls, including games and food organised by the students and the parents of the host school. GIIS East Coast students set up two stalls in the open ground of the school. The first stall was on Indian traditional art and the students enlightened the visitors on various Indian traditional paintings like Madhubhani, Worli, Kalamkari and, Tanjore etc. Sheets with designs were also distributed to the visitors to give them a hands on experience in doing Worli painting. The pupils of the host school enjoyed the activity to the fullest and some of them did marvelous paintings.

The second stall was on Indian traditional games. The enthusiastic students explained about the various traditional games of India like Chausar, gilli danda, lagori, saanp sidi, shatranj, marbles etc. Visitors also enjoyed playing few traditional games like aiming the marble in the cup, arranging seven stones for laogori and playing hopscotch on a big cutout. This stall attracted the attention of the young as well as the old.

Students enjoyed participating in the traditional lantern walk and enjoyed eating the mooncake, which is a delicacy of this festival. This cross cultural exchange programme provided an opportunity to 5th graders to better understand and appreciate Chinese culture.
