Students from GIIS East Coast Campus took part in the SG60: Celebrating Together @ Marine Parade Cluster event, held on 6 April at the vibrant Kampong Ubi Community Centre. The celebration marked the launch of Singapore’s 60th year of independence and brought together families and residents in a carnival-style setting focused on community spirit, healthy living, and family bonding.
Our students added colour and energy to the occasion with their captivating dance performances, which drew enthusiastic applause from the audience. Their presentation not only showcased their talent but also reflected the school’s emphasis on holistic development and expressive arts.
Following their performance, the students engaged with the audience, sharing insights on how gestures in dance can convey a range of emotions, from joy to sorrow—deepening the appreciation for the expressive power of the performing arts.
Speaking about the opportunity, Ms Deepika Sodhi, Principal of GIIS East Coast Campus, shared: “As we celebrate Singapore's 60th anniversary, I am thrilled to see our students actively participating in the Marine Parade SG60 celebrations. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with the community and develop a sense of pride and ownership. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our students, teachers, and parents for their enthusiasm and support. Your involvement has made this event a memorable experience for all. I am confident that our students will continue to grow and thrive, becoming responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the nation's progress. Congratulations to all involved—let’s continue to shine together!”
A memorable highlight of the event was the opportunity for our students to meet and briefly interact with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Minister Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law. These special moments were captured in photographs—souvenirs of an unforgettable day.
The event served as a remarkable platform for our students to connect with the wider community, celebrate Singapore’s milestone year, and proudly represent the spirit and vibrancy of GIIS East Coast.
