In a proactive effort to combat the ever-increasing problem of electronic waste (e-waste), GIIS East Coast Campus organized an inspiring e-waste donation drive from July 6th to July 27th, 2023. This remarkable initiative saw the active participation of students, parents, and staff members, resulting in the collection of approximately 60 kilograms of e-waste.
In today's fast-paced digital age, where technological advancements continually lead to the obsolescence of our gadgets and devices, e-waste has emerged as a pressing global concern. Recognizing this, GIIS East Coast Campus took it upon itself to educate its community about the importance of addressing this issue and imparting knowledge on effective strategies for preserving our environment. The objective was clear: to ensure a better future for generations to come by tackling the e-waste problem head-on.
The school's administration strongly encouraged students to step forward and donate any cluttered electronic items they may have at home. The drive was a resounding success, with an impressive array of electronic items collected for recycling and upcycling. The e-waste donation drive provided a comprehensive list of items suitable for upcycling, which was then handed over to Alba E-Waste Singapore for responsible recycling. Donatable items included batteries, old appliances, home appliances, ICT equipment, phones, tablets, computers, old and used ink cartridges, and old cables.
This initiative serves as a shining example of how educational institutions can take a leading role in addressing pressing environmental concerns. By fostering awareness and instilling a sense of responsibility among students and the wider community, GIIS East Coast Campus has not only contributed to reducing e-waste but has also set a valuable precedent for other institutions to follow.
In an age where technology plays an integral part in our lives, it is heartening to see our students taking the lead in promoting environmental consciousness. With initiatives like this, we can hope for a greener and more sustainable future for our planet.
