Cricket Chronicles

GIIS East Coast Campus:

  • Rohan Rangarajan, Class 8, created history by scoring the first and only century in the U-16 Singapore Junior Cricket League in May 2012 organised by Singapore Recreation Club.
  • The U-14 team were winners in ACSIS U-14 championship in Oct-Nov, 2011.
  • Janak Prakash, Class 8, was Best All Rounder in the U-13 Howzat tournament in May 2012. GIIS ‘Kings’ won the Runners-up position in the tournament.
  • GIIS Warriors team won the first ever U-14 Indoor eight-a- side cricket challenge in July 2012.

GIIS Queenstown Campus:

  • The U-12 team were champions in the Indian Association National Day sixes tournament in August 2012, beating NPS International in the semi-final and Singapore Cricket Association ‘Warriors’ in the finals. Sidhanth Singh was declared Best Batsman and Player of the tournament.
  • Student Kawanjeet Singh, Class 10 and Md Atif, Class 8 represented Singapore Recreation Club in the first ever Singapore Junior cricket league and won acclaim for their outstanding bowling.
  • Class 12 student Karan Kohli represented Singapore Indian Association in the Singapore Cricket League.
  • Deepak Sarika and Karan Kohli – both Class 12 students, represented combined Singapore international schools’ team against Singapore local schools in July 2012.

GICC East Coast Campus:

Global Indian Cultural Centre (GICC), East Coast Campus, became champions in the Australian International School -Sharks U-10 sixes tournament in November 2011.

Summer Cricket Camp:

In June 2012 holidays, a summer cricket camp was organised at both the GIIS Queenstown and East Coast Campuses with the emphasis given to physical fitness, fielding as well as batting and bowling. The camp participants displayed their passion and commitment to learn the game, despite warm weather. One of the more promising players, Pranav Sudarshan, Class 4, GIIS East Coast Campus echoed the opinion of many players when he said, “This year the holidays were fun and exciting, thanks to the cricket camp by Munish Arora sir and my school. Two weeks of intense training in fielding, bowling, batting, fitness and match practice has improved my cricketing skills a lot. It was a wonderful experience for all budding cricketers.”
