DUBAI, APRIL 21: Teachers made a simple, and everyday activity like selection of packaged food from supermarket shelves a fun-filled activity, by involving Grade 5 students in the process of selection and learning about preservation of pckaged food and vegetables.
Children explored why food needs to be preserved and the science behind different preservation techniques within a global setting on that day. Each group preserved items like strawberries, mushrooms. tomatoes in different types of containers using different mediums of preservation like oil, salt and sugar.
The idea was to imbibe on their young minds the important role of food preservation in today's globally connected world, and thus reducing food waste. Students also discovered what happens to food during decay and the different methods of preservation.
It was part of GIIS green and sustainabiliy initiatives and the 9GEMS framework of holistic development in students. GIIS believes in reducing its carbon footprint and increasing conversation as a social responbility.
