Children learn about firefighting during thrilling field trip

Kindergarten students visited the Al Barsha fire station and met firefighters during an educational, motivational and entertaining field trip, as part of the ‘community helpers’ month in May 2018.

During the visit, the children were given a wonderful presentation on the importance of the job of a firefighter, helping them understand the nature of the job and the bravery that is involved in the process. Children learnt the importance of helping others as well as felt inspired by the brave spirit of the firemen.

Ammar, a firefighter, talked about the importance of safety in the house fire in case of fire, and gave tips to students on important ‘dos’ with their families. Questions like – Is there a smoke detector in your house/bedroom, what will be the steps taken in case there is fire in the house, and how to deal with things like matches and lighters.

Ammar also put on his firefighting gear and explained to the children the use of each gear on his person. Turning on his breathing apparatus, Ammar also thrilled the students with the different sounds he made while talking wearing a mask.

Finally, students got a chance to see the fire engine and explore it inside out, including the water hose. As a mark of their appreciation, the children gave handmade cards to firefighters as a thankyou gift and sang a song.
