Magic coin, bouncing ball and blue sky activities make Pre Primary kids happily inquisitive

BENGALURU, 29 MAY, 2019 - Thinking Thursday engagement level activities always bring a smile on the faces of the tiny tots.

The Magic coin experiment for Nursery was based on the concept of the refraction of light. When these light rays travel through air, they experience little or no refraction. That's why you can still see the coin through the side of the empty glass. When water was poured into the glass, it was as though the coin had disappeared, but it was actually the bending light rays. Teachers wanted to show that images that we see are all light rays that reach our eyes.

The Bouncing ball activity was done for KG 1 to show the students how the force helps the ball to bounce when the elastic is pulled. A small model was made using plastic bottle and rubber band. Kids were given the bottle model. Clear instructions were given about how to play with that. They had to pull the rubber band which was attached with the bottle cap and then it was released to see the ball bounce.

In the Blue Sky Activity, the children of KG 2 discovered as to why the sky is blue and the sunset is red. They first filled the glass with water. Then dissolved a little bit of milk in the water to get a cloudy solution. After this, in a dark room, the flashlight was pointed at the cloudy solution from the side. They all observed the fluid from the side to see a hint of the sky blue colour. A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.
