Inter School Spin-a-Yarn competition enthused the aspiring young storytellers

BENGALURU, 25 SEPTEMBER, 2018 - The Inter-School Spin-a-Yarn Competition hosted by Global Indian International School (GIIS), Whitefield, welcomed the budding storytellers with pride and admiration. The art of narrating a story with the right props and costumes was illustriously shown by the smart pre-primary children of various schools of Bengaluru including WOW (World of Wonders Preschool) - Kadubeesanahalli, Little Millennium - Hado, Siddapura, Little Elly- Varthur and Global Indian International School - Whitefield.

The stories showcased the elements of nature, importance of friendship and many assorted stories with moral values for children. Global Indian International School came FIRST followed by WOW (World of Wonders Preschool) and Little Millennium.

Storytelling is considered as an inseparable part of formative years for pre-primary children. This valuable art involves use of facial expressions, voice modulations and body movements so as to make the story reach out the clearly to the audience. There was hardly any sign of stage fright in the students while they narrated stories. This is a big bonus for them. The children were very clear with respect to content and clarity of speech. The expressions were very candid and appropriate for the story that they had selected to narrate. The colourful props added a visual delight to their flawless narration.

The judges, Ms. Kalyani Kar (Founder of Humming Birds Kids' Activity Centre) was amazed to see the confidence of the tiny tots on stage and Mr. Vikram Sridhar (a performance storyteller, theatre practitioner, TEDx Speaker) gave a stellar storytelling performance and enthralled all the children. This storytelling competition was a wonderful platform wherein children received good exposure in expressing their thoughts and now they are confident to perform in front of a wider audience. Storytelling is undoubtedly a vital part of their curriculum and it always helps to enhance communication skills, creative thinking and increases the power of imagination among children.
