Virtual Kannada Rajyotsav Festival illustrates the Spectacular Verve of Karnataka Culture

Kannada Rajyotsav was celebrated in Global Indian International School, Whitefield with great enthusiasm and respect for Karnataka culture. Every year Karnataka Formation Day is popularly commemorated as Kannada Rajyotsav. In 1956, on November 1st, all the Kannada speaking regions of South India were merged to form a new state. The online fiesta on this occasion was planned by GIIS Whitefield Kannada teachers and excellently portrayed by our students, high on vigor and grandeur to offer the highest tribute to honor the state and the achievements through eye-catching special surprises about Karnataka.

Our pre-primary kids were part of the Kannada Rajyotsav visual extravaganza as they were shown interesting videos showcasing the best of Karnataka.  They felt joyful to see some of the familiar beautiful tourist places in the state. They also came to know about the famous poets- Kuvempu, Dara Bendre, and Girish Karnad, freedom fighters - Tipu Sultan and Kithur Rani Channamma, Royal ancient kingdoms - Bahamas and Kadambas. They were walked through the rich Kannada literature that has 49 letters as Varrnamale. Few students also spoke about the significance of Kannada Rajyotsav with cuteness and clarity. The celebration brought a smile on the faces of all our tiny tots as they enjoyed the coloring and painting activity for Karnataka map and flag in their respective homes. All the kids were dressed up in yellow and red which form the main colors of Karnataka flag.

For Grades 1 onwards, Kannada Rajyotsav brought to light the colorful paradise of Karnataka culture, tradition, literature, and heritage with the hues of yellow and red, being the predominant colors. The event started with the prayer song - Hachchevu Kannadada Deepa which was sung to invoke the blessing of the Almighty to enlighten their minds. The graceful welcome dance on the theme 'Krisha and Deena' was very graceful and reflected the richness of the traditional dance of Karnataka. Students narrated moral stories in Kannada, in which they confidently explained about how to save oneself cleverly during various circumstances in life and to think before you act. In order to recount the specialty of Karnataka such as the traditional Channapattana toys or the historical monuments or the brave freedom fighters were shared with pride. There was a special mention about the contributions of Kannada poets like Shivaramakaarantha, Kuvempu, and Masti Venkatesha Iyengar who took Kannada poetry and literature to a phenomenal popular dais of respect and admiration. Students were recited the inspiring story of Saalumarada Thimmakka, the Padma Shri award winner. She is an environmentalist from Karnataka, known for her stupendous and dedicated contribution to sustain Nature. She is known for planting and tending to more than 8000 trees in and around her place. There was mono acting by students to portray eminent personalities like Nitturu Srinivasa Rao and Raani Abbakka followed by a cultural dance to mark the culmination of the array of entertaining celebrations beautifully captured and directed to connect with the virtual audience at GIIS Whitefield.
