Pre Primary students become smart ideators and techy experts during Innovation Week

The tiny tots of GIIS Whitefield, Bangalore celebrated Innovation week where they came together, collaborated and engaged in accelerating new ideas and opportunities meant to make learning easier. The activities were simple and informative based on their level of understanding about innovation and technology.

On Day 1, children were given an 'Inventor's Box' activity to kindle their creative minds.  They were shown a box containing different types of materials. Children were encouraged to think and invent with this open ended inventor's box.

Day 2 was about Real World Learning and this involved outdoor classes. It is believed that lessons are best learnt, when they are taught outside of the classroom. The children were introduced to various cultural topics incorporating audio-visual materials to supplement textbooks during the sessions.

On Day 3,  the Tech day was a special day with numerous activities where teachers chose to unplug the computer and teaching coding through more familiar mediums such as hands-on activities, which were creative and more interactive. Nursery did the 'decode the picture' activity, KG 1 enjoyed the 'amateur coders' activity and KG 2 did the 'crack the code' and grid-based coding activity.

On Day 4, there were Entrepreneurship Activities wherein children were involved in real selling and Buying of Lemonade and Cookie Sandwich .This comprised of cash transactions as well. Children had enjoyed the money transactions and collecting the receipt too.

On Day 5, the pre-primary kids played the role of little Movie Makers where their teachers recorded a quick video of the kids and played them back to these children.
