At GIIS Whitefield, learning often extends beyond textbooks, creating opportunities for students to explore ideas that enrich their personal growth and well-being. In line with this vision, the GIIS Aalekh Club hosted a collaborative session on Psychology and Art Integration for students of Grades XI and XII, offering a unique perspective on the relationship between creativity, mindfulness, and mental health.
The session was led by Ms. Anubhi Saxena, Humanities Topper of the GIIS Whitefield Class of 2020–21. Returning to her alma mater as an accomplished psychology professional, Ms. Saxena brought with her a wealth of academic knowledge and practical experience. She holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Psychology and an M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology from CHRIST (Deemed to be University), and has completed over 300 counselling hours along with six internships. Her expertise spans therapeutic approaches such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT).
Titled “The Connection Between Art, Mindfulness and Mental Well-being,” the session explored how creative expression can serve as a powerful tool for understanding emotions, reducing stress, and promoting overall mental wellness. Through engaging discussions and relatable examples, Ms. Saxena encouraged students to view art not merely as a form of creativity, but as a meaningful avenue for self-reflection and emotional expression.
One of the most impactful aspects of the session was its interactive nature. Students actively participated in conversations, reflected on personal experiences, and gained practical insights into how mindfulness practices and artistic activities can support emotional balance in everyday life. The discussions helped students understand the importance of pausing, observing their thoughts, and finding healthy ways to express and process emotions.
The session also served as a meaningful alumni connect, inspiring students to see how former GIIS learners are making significant contributions in their chosen fields. Ms. Saxena’s journey from a GIIS student to a counselling psychology professional resonated strongly with the audience, demonstrating the value of pursuing one's passions with dedication and purpose.
As mental health continues to be an important aspect of student development, sessions such as these play a vital role in fostering awareness, empathy, and self-care. The GIIS Aalekh Club remains committed to creating platforms where students can engage with relevant topics, learn from experts, and develop skills that support both academic success and personal well-being.
The session concluded on a positive note, leaving students with valuable takeaways on the healing power of art, the practice of mindfulness, and the importance of nurturing mental well-being in an increasingly fast-paced world.
