Team Green Threads, comprising four IGCSE 10 students - Anwita Sethi, Kiana Kamdar, Kritika Tripathi, and Anaya Shabi from GIIS SMART Campus, has achieved an outstanding milestone by clinching the esteemed 'Best in the Region' award at the Cambridge Learner Award for Action on Climate Change competition 2023. This accolade, presented by Cambridge IGCSE, recognises exemplary student initiatives addressing the global crisis of climate change.

The spotlight was firmly on Team Green Threads for their pioneering solution to textile recycling, a transformative effort aimed at addressing Singapore's escalating waste challenges. Their innovative approach involved crafting functional chairs from old textiles.

Explaining the inspiration behind their idea, the team expressed, "Our passion for sustainability has been long and persistent since we came up with this idea, and seeing an opportunity to showcase and present it pushed us to participate in this competition. We hoped that displaying our idea would also inspire our peers and create an impact that would truly change the world for the better."

Upon winning the prestigious award, the team expressed their joy, stating, "We are thrilled and very grateful to have gotten this platform to share our idea, even more so to be recognised and win this competition. This achievement motivates us to continue working towards our idea of converting old textile waste to chairs. We are also relieved that all our efforts and the support from our teacher has yielded such great results, and we hope to continue working on the mission of Green Threads."

The platform allowed students from across Southeast Asia & Pacific to showcase their initiatives addressing one of the world's critical humanitarian crises through short videos about their projects.

In addition to their Cambridge success, Team Green Threads recently secured the Best Presenter title at The Young Technopreneur Challenge 2023, further highlighting their exceptional talent and commitment to addressing real-world challenges through technology and entrepreneurship.
