Students successfully raise food donations with Food from the Heart

Every year, students at GIIS Smart Campus practice kindness and compassion through a food donation drive. For 2020, they experienced the joy of giving together with Food from the Heart, a Singapore-based charity foundation.

Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer founded the charity in February 2003, after reading a news article about bread wastage. Wanting to do something about it, they began channelling surplus food from bakeries to families in need.

Food from the Heart is now Singapore’s foremost independent food charity with IPC (Institutions of a Public Character) status. Not only are they busy fighting hunger with bread rations and food packets, they also spread joy by distributing toys and celebrating birthdays.

Students and teachers alike were invited to donate various dry food products. Everyone contributed wholeheartedly.

The FOS student ambassadors helped in encouraging and sorting donations, careful to put the different food items correctly. It was tiring work, but there was joy and smiles all around.

Some lessons can only be imparted beyond the classroom. With Food from the Heart, the students learned that even small acts of kindness can make a huge difference in somebody’s life.
