Students learn important life skill during Little Chef virtual activity

Grade 1 and 2 students learnt yet another life skill, that is culinary art, during the Little Chef activity which was performed during virtual lessons on 27th and 28th of May.

They learnt the basics of cooking and also made sumptuous food items under the guidance of their teachers.

The young leaners turned into little chefs and made a variety of foods ranging from bread pizza, lemonade to fruit sticks, crackers.

The teachers had sent prior communication to the parents about the cooking without fire activity and students were ready with the required ingredients during the enrichment class. During the virtual lesson, they quickly assembled the ingredients to come up with yummy dishes. Kids were excited to see each other’s dishes and the teachers gave everyone a chance to show their dish to the rest of the class.

With efficient guidance of teachers, students were able to make the dishes with zero assistance from adults.

Life Skill is an important subject for lower primary students. Through hands-on activities, students are trained in various skills so that they become independent. Culinary is an important life skill and during this activity, students felt accomplished by enjoying a dish cooked by themselves.

The Culinary Skill activity received a lot of appreciation from the parents who felt that kids had fun-learning during the lesson.

Ms Anuradha Satish, mother of Keerthini Satish and Hasini Satish, Grade 2D, wrote to the teacher, “ it really means a lot seeing the kids happily involved in their work. I would like to mention here, that every time an activity like this happens, whether it is making organisers, clay modelling, preparing mother's day speech or culinary skill, that day children do not watch TV or fight with each other. Rather they stay engaged with their own work. The best part is that parents also get a chance to get involved with them which doesn't happen otherwise. Thanks for your efforts.”

Many more such interesting activities keep GIIS students engaged during the circuit breaker period when students are taking virtual lessons.
