Upholding the true spirit of an international school, the primary students of GIIS SMART Campus celebrated the French National Day on July 14, by indulging in some fun activities, uniquely related to French history, cuisine and culture.
Students came dressed up to celebrate France, by using the colours of the French flag - which is red, white and blue - in their clothes and accessories like caps, scarves etc. Grade 5 students were invited to enjoy a traditional French viennoiserie - which included croissants, pain aux raisins, pain aux Chocolat, Baguette, cheese etc.
The rest of the day was spent by the students from Grades 1 to 5 sharing knowledge on the history and culture of France.
Students showcased a handcrafted French national flag - made with recyclable material - to represent the spirit of the day. They spoke about the French Revolution and held a quiz on the event - which is considered one of the most important in the country’s history when the aristocracy was brought down by the peasant class in an uprising.
Some students shared facts on France and the National Day, while later they sang the French national anthem to salute the historical date. The students also sang a famous French children’s song called ‘Alouette’, which is known to be a popular way of teaching students the names of the various parts of a human body.
Students enjoyed the food and ambiance, as well as the fun activities. These activities give an insight into the holistic framework of the GIIS pedagogy. This framework emphasizes the non-academic part of the curriculum which helps shape the students' worldview and gives them knowledge suitable for the 21st century.
