The International Baccalaureate (IB) Global Conference 2026, held in Mumbai from 26–28 March at the Jio World Convention Centre, brought together over 1,100 educators, school leaders, and thought leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region. As the first IB Global Conference of the year, it served as a vibrant platform for professional dialogue, collaboration, and reflection on evolving educational practices.
Centred around the theme “Shared Learning, Shared Futures,” the conference emphasised the value of dialogue and the exchange of diverse perspectives in an increasingly complex world. Sessions explored how educators can create environments where respectful disagreement fosters deeper understanding, intercultural awareness, and meaningful learning - principles that strongly align with the IB philosophy of global-mindedness, critical thinking, and learner agency.
The conference featured over 70 sessions, offering insights into innovative approaches across IB programmes. These were complemented by keynote addresses from distinguished speakers, including Olli-Pekka Heinonen, who spoke on the evolving role of educators in the age of artificial intelligence. Additional perspectives were shared by Neeraj Aggarwal, Dr Yuhyun Park, and Adam Voigt, focusing on digital transformation, ethical technology use, and the importance of relationships in education.
A notable highlight was the conference’s strong connection to the Indian educational landscape. The IB has been present in India since 1976, with 269 IB World Schools across the country - reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, adaptability, and holistic development.
Representing GIIS SMART Campus, Singapore, Deepa Chandrasekaran (Diploma Programme Coordinator) and Odaia Ranido (Primary Years Programme Coordinator) actively engaged in the sessions and discussions. Their participation underscores the school’s commitment to continuous professional development and the adoption of global best practices in IB education.
The conference also comes at a significant moment for GIIS SMART Campus, Singapore, as it marks 20 years of offering the Diploma Programme. This milestone reflects a sustained vision and the collective efforts of a dedicated community of educators. Over the years, the programme has evolved through collaboration, innovation, and shared expertise, shaping a learning environment that continues to uphold excellence.
Overall, the IB Global Conference 2026 offered a meaningful and enriching experience, reinforcing the importance of shared learning in building a more inclusive, forward-looking educational landscape.
