Annual Day 2019 unfolds magical adventure

Annual Day, the much-anticipated school event was conducted with great zest and passion by the students of middle and high school. The event explored the theme of creativity and imagination and was titled “An Enchanted Odyssey”.

Fantasy can be rightly termed as an expression of what we desire and long for. This is exactly what the magical adventure brimmed with, a fascinating medley of songs, skits and dances.

The event started with the welcome address by the Principal, Ms Melissa Maria. Mr Rajeev Katyal, Deputy COO, GIIS, welcomed the Guests of Honour, Ms Kirtida Mekan, passionate environmentalist, educationist, successful businesswoman and a devoted artist and Mr Ameerali Jumabho, the Chairman of the Mahatma Gandhi Committee (GOPIO Singapore), Director and Founder Chairman of Scotts Holdings Ltd, the Vice President of Singapore China Friendship Association, and a life member at the Singapore Heritage Society. The guests were presented with a potted plant as a token.

The panorama of talent started with a performance called Mystical Melody, by the school band. Then began the much-awaited show - Enchanted Odyssey - Harvey’s Mansion. The play revolved around a gathering of four friends who have been reunited after being a long time apart. The journey of these young friends struggling to regain their lost connections and bonding through the experience of surviving an enchanted game forms the basis of the entire theatrical production. This play surfaced the themes of friendship, teamwork and cooperation while also elucidating on the riveting theme of fantasy.

The second play under Enchanted Odyssey, the Tree of Ages, continued the central theme and the friends end up in a mesmerizing world and learn the importance of getting a second chance. The enthralling tale delved into the themes of tradition and modernization through Hindu mythology in a Hindi play entitled Trishanku. Upon the conclusion Trishanku, the event staged the popular, humorous, enticing and gripping musical play that shed light on the purity and beauty of love. It was the most loved plays of Shakespeare, A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.

Next was the tale of two friends, struggling with opposing ideas but coming together in the end. Towards the end, the four friends realise how valuable their relationship is and celebrate with a scintillating dance performance of the Grand Finale.

Ms Kirtida Mekani addressed the audience and motivated the students to prepare for changing scenarios of future jobs and technology. She encouraged the students to explore and love nature. She also urged the parents to never discourage the learning and learner's creative process and push them to the path of creativity and self-learning. After the speech, she was presented with a token of memento by Mr Kaustubh Bodhankar.

During the show, Mr Ameerali Jumabhoy’s presentation was screened. It spread his message to the students about Gandhian values in the 21st century. He was felicitated with a token of memento by Mr Atul Temurnikar, the Chairman and Mr Rajeev Katyal.

The masters of ceremony, Abhijeet K C, Aarohee Temurnikar, Anagh Subramanian and Prakalpa Prabhu proposed a vote of thanks. They spoke about the tireless efforts of all the people involved in the production of the Annual Day. To make the event memorable, a photo session was arranged and a Kodak moment was captured featuring, Mr Ameerali Jumabhoy, Ms Melissa Maria, teachers and participants.
