A number of universities participated in Edufair 2018, hosted by Global Indian International School’s Queenstown campus. The fair is a great opportunity for parents and students to learn about opportunities for undergraduate programmes in Singapore, and to interact with representatives from these universities.
Among those who participated were S P Jain School of Global Management, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Singapore Institute of Technology, Essec Business School, Laselle College of Art, Yale NUS, SIM Global Management, Singapore University of Technology and Design, International Medical University and National University Singapore. Two counselling centres - Prepzone test prep consultants and Collegewise were also present.
Parents and students queued up from as early as 9.30 am for the event held on Feb 3 in the school auditorium, as each university conducted their information session and presentations from their respective exhibition booths. The schools shared their expectations from the student community through their talk sessions. “We want students who are passionate about the subject they want to pursue”, said the representative from Yale NUS.
Students also expressed satisfaction at the amount of information they received at the session. “I really got clarity about a lot of things – apart from some important information about the top colleges of Singapore. The one to one sessions with the college representatives proved extremely effective,” said Likhith, a student of IB year 1, who came with his parents.
Students acquired information about the application process, requirements, deadlines and turning in a successful application. Parents learnt about the college facilities and fee structure. Many students were from the ninth and tenth grades, who got useful advice about subject choices in IB which in turn will help them to take informed decisions while seeking admissions to the universities of their dreams in future. The junior college students familiarized themselves with the tests to be taken and the scores required to get into the local universities and to explore new career pathways.
