At Global Indian International School, the aim is to nurture the students with holistic learning. The emphasis on developing their areas of interest through extra-curricular activities has brought a lot of positive responses in terms of creative thinking and has enhanced their logical reasoning abilities in academics too. Aeromodelling/Model aeronautics classes have a lot of aspiring young learners who eagerly wait for their sessions every week, in order to give real wings to their fantasy for flights. The trainers make the sessions so lively that students give their best attention in the classes making various models of Gliders and powered model individually. The joy of flying their scale down aircrafts can be seen in their eyes and broad smiles.
Aeromodelling is a popular international sport or a favourite pastime in the West. While we look at giving the best as Global Indian to every student it is indeed one of the best options offered to GIIS Bangalore students, where they get to learn the art of designing and building the models of flights within the campus. The scientific concepts of aerodynamics and principles of flying are explained through experiential sessions combining theory and practical. The classes are very engaging and students get to unleash their creative minds through the various activities conducted in the school premises.
‘My plane flew higher’; ‘I need to check the speed and direction of the wind before flying my aircraft model’; ‘Wow! I already feel like an aspiring pilot. My plane glides so smoothly.’ These are the candid reactions of the students when questioned about their experience during a live activity.
The thrill of watching every model plane created by the students, flying in the air and gliding down in different directions depending on the direction of the winds, recreated the feel of being in a trainer’s aerodrome.
The glimpse to the world of aeromodelling and the enthusiasm of GIIS students makes the topic appealing. Recently, the students have assembled scaled down model of the Wright Flyer 1903, which was the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft, originally designed and built by the world-renowned Wright brothers. The model reflects their passion for this interesting science and the team work of the students. The beginners’ level training boosts their confidence level and increases coordination skills. The creative level is always growing higher with every activity they are taught.
Through similar activities, GIIS prepares every student competent enough for the global world by getting them acquainted with such world-famous hobby of flying enthusiasts and aeronautic engineers. Way to go!
